Ahhhh I gotcha. I like that, it'll definitely cut the chance of me accidentally going nuts with magic xD There'll be a part about making potions, too, which will be a lot material-gathering and chanting and all that sort of tradition witch stuff. I lahv it! As for vampires, should they have to be invited in? I don't think they should be weak against crosses or holy water. I do like the invitation idea though... You mean like invited into her house? That would make sense (I wasn't going to do the cross/holy water stuff, that's been done for too long) xD Since the witchcraft is based heavily off of nature, maybe there are a handful of herbs that repel vampires. Not kill them, but are just like a "oh ew what is that smell" sort of thing. Her way of picking them out?

So, until then they can't get in. And yes, there should be some herbs like that. In vampire diaries they are weak against this thing called vervane. It burns them, and it can be distilled into liquid and knock them out if they're injected. It's basically like acid to their skin. So we can have similar things too.

I read something once upon a time that had crosses only repel vampires if the wielder really believed in the power of the cross. Meaning that it could be applied to anything. Like Russia's sickle and hammer.

dumping some stuff
daywalking : can walk around perfectly fine during the day. powers are diminished, but no discomfort or pain is experienced.
no reflections, dont show up on video or audio recordings,
as they get older, they get more and more 'monstrous" and less and less human life. Physically and mentally.
grow weak, lose powers, and begin to age when they dont eat regularly
eat blood and/or life energy
are dead already, need to eat to remain in the world of the living
strong fast durable
turning someone else is a long involved process and vaguely ritualistic
weak to magical weapons, silver, garlic flowers / garlic, salt, roses, walfs bane, holly bushes, mustard seeds, hawthorne, foxgloves,
need to be invited into a persons home, can enter if already feed on an inhabitant, revoking invitation requires a ritual thing
vaguely ocd?
no heartbeat, breathing, cold, no brain activity
hierarchy of strength based on age

I like all that.
I do think the sun should burn them, but perhaps they can have enchanted lapis lazuli rings that enable them to walk freely in the day without being burned? How do you feel about that idea? Not attached to it, really.
Older vampires should have more abilities than younger. Perhaps a "standard set" of abilities all vampires have, growing stronger with age and also gaining more advanced abilities with age. Perhaps some vampires have unique abilities right from the get go, but this would be extremely rare. One in every hundred or more, and I imagine there aren't many more than a few thousand vampires in the world?
Does lack of blood cause true death, or do they merely shrivel up and become a living 'corpse' unable to move and trapped in its head? Of course, somehow obtaining blood would begin to bring them back from this state.
Stakes to the heart and decapitation are lethal, and fire is not their friend either. And perhaps the sunlight in the case we decide it burns them.

Perhaps extremely old vampires can overcome some of their limitations, like stakes are no longer fatal. Perhaps they can walk in sunlight without any qualms.
Though I could see ancient vampires growing more monstrous in appearance, I feel as if they'd have more self control than younger vampires. Newly turned vampires would have less control over the hunger for blood, and almost none when they start out. Only someone who had substantial amounts of willpower would be able to resist the call of blood when first turned.
Perhaps old vampires are just extremely dangerous if their bloodlust gets the better than them, since there aren't many who could hope to stop them.

Okay so this is what I've got so far:
- Witches are technically human and age like humans. They can extend their lifespans through darker magics and rituals, but these are risky and tend to cause the aging process to be incredibly painful.
- Witches are not born, they are made. Anyone can become a witch, but the children of a witch are far more likely to become a witch than someone whose parents weren't witches.
- Witchcraft involves a mix of chants, herbs/potions, and a bit of alchemy.
- Energy is drawn from nature and the surroundings. It can range from trees and animals to fire and (in the case of more modern witches) electricity.
- Darker magics involve blood and have an incredibly high failure rate. This magic can be addictive. Witches who use this can be easily found by looking at their surroundings- their homes are surrounded by dead plants, clouds/fog, and the people and animals that come too close often become ill.
- The witch's haven is his/her sanctuary. A witch can be attacked, but not killed, inside and the floors are often booby-trapped to catch trespassers.

Name: Soraya Noorani
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Appearance: A young woman of soft prettiness. Her skin is the color of coffee with heavy cream, smooth and milky in its warm cinnamon shade. Thick lashes and heavy lidded eyes pull focus toward the deep, clear brown of her pupils. Her brow is slight, matching her cheekbones and jawline; overall her bone structure holds the curved, flowing power of the female figure. Her nose compliments the whole of her face and is softly hooked at its tip. Her lips just below are full and pink.
Soraya dresses in a humble yet stylish manner. Long sleeves and skirts, the occasional jeans, and well-selected cardigans or jackets, all picked carefully to match. A Muslim, Soraya has chosen to wear a hijab of her own free will, unlike her sister and mother. She seeks to coordinate them with the rest of her ensemble, alternating between a wide selection of high-quality patterned hijab.
Personality: Soraya is kind and quiet, though fiercely independent and outspoken when challenged. She would rather coexist with the rest of the world, but she does not blanch in the face of conflict. Soraya is not the smartest nor the sharpest, but she is clever and curious. This gives her the natural drive to learn about whoever and whatever she encounters, yet it can also cause her to act without truly thinking things through. To project a positive image for Muslim Americans, Soraya goes to great lengths to be amiable and approachable; however, she also tries to fight stereotypes against Muslims and hijab-wearing women by participating fully in her classes and life on campus.
Birthplace: whereverthefuckthistownis
History: Born to her fourth generation Iranian-American parents, Soraya was raised in a very open and liberal mindset. Her father - a theologist and college professor - strove to instill his daughters with kindness and acceptance for all creeds and colors; he has always encouraged them to be their own person and seek out their own happiness, whatever that may be. Soraya has lived a relatively normal life with no notable specifics, doing well both socially and academically throughout her school career. Now she attends the university her father teaches at and is currently in her Sophomore year.
Abilities: None beyond the standard human capabilities.
Weaknesses: Human, reckless, occasional lack of common sense.
Other: Her family is more spiritual than strictly religious, and Soraya has connected to her Muslim background more than her sister or mother. Because of her relationship with God, she has chosen to wear a hijab to feel closer to Him. She lives her spiritualism through her actions, however, not words. She respects all forms of worship and feels that her path to God is not the only true path. Her idea of God is more a force of the universe versus one actual solidified being. She is as a part of God as the trees or ocean, the stars in the sky or the blackness beyond.
