~Elveda: Marketplace, Open-Air Food Stand~
"...I didn't see ya at the Orphanage, you big liar," grumbled Sam. He sighed, and tapped the table irritably with his fingers. Then he grinned bemusedly, and clenched his fists, "Could've been fun to take Them out together! Like mashing taters!"
Then, Sam sighed, "I'm only here 'cause they told me to come here! I don't know why they chose this icky sandhole, but they said something about me freezing to death, and... What am I, frozen tuna?!"
Sam stood up, and paced angrily around the table. It was very clear that there was no room for his opinion regarding where he'd go.
"Am I sane, Dante? Am I saaaaane? Do I look saaaane? Do I smell sane?"
Sam stood, and rocked back in forth in place, staring at the sky, his voice growing somewhat poisonous again, "What about me is so sane that I get thrown into a place...
A... place...
...FILLED. WITH. TWINNIES?!"
Then, he fell forward to the table, resting his hands on its surface for balance.
"...It's not fun, Dante... It's not fun. I nearly got poisoned by Twinnies today. You see, They tricked me, Dante. They tricked me!"

"...I didn't see ya at the Orphanage, you big liar," Sam grumbled as he began to tap the table. "Could've been fun to take Them out together! Like mashing taters!"
"Well it's a pretty big place there Sam, it's not surprising we didn't bump into each other," Dante said with a laugh.
Then, Sam sighed, "I'm only here 'cause they told me to come here! I don't know why they chose this icky sandhole, but they said something about me freezing to death, and... What am I, frozen tuna?!"
"Well you could be, did you ever stop to check?" It was bad, Dante admitted to himself quietly, that he sometimes like to use people's insanity to cause more fun for him, but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up most times. "And who is 'they'?"
But before Dante could get his answer, Sam was on his feet pacing around their table. He didn't say anything for a moment but without any sort of warning his face snapped back to Dante's direction.
"Am I sane, Dante? Am I saaaaane? Do I look saaaane? Do I smell sane?"he asked.
"How exactly does sane smell?" Dante asked, more to himself really. He would've done the usual and ignore this type of question, but apparently it was one that Sam wanted to discuss in great detail.
Dante began to fade out a bit, noting an exchange going on across the market place that was of no real particular interest, except for maybe the food the woman was purchasing, but his attention was quickly pulled back when Sam yelled, "...FILLED. WITH. TWINNIES?! ...It's not fun, Dante... It's not fun. I nearly got poisoned by Twinnies today. You see, They tricked me, Dante. They tricked me!"
That last bit caught Dante's attention. "Poisoned? What do you mean you were almost poisoned?" His tone was much more serious now that it was previously, and he sat closer to the edge of his seat, waiting for Sam's explanation.

Sam was delighted to see that Dante was finally listening to him. The other man was now on the edge of his seat, his gaze intent, waiting for the insane Lonely to explain the situation.
Sam nodded slowly, "There's two of Them, you see," he began.
"One's an accomplice, I think, and the Other is... is the ringleader of this little gang of two. They tricked me, Dante. They fought at the Orphanage with me, They were so un-Twinny! So unfair!"
Sam sighed, and shook his head, "I fought so hard, too! So hard I fell down and saw blackness... They must have been plotting bad things, putting bad things in my head, Dante."
He nearly choked on his words, as he struggled to remember what he had seen... yes! His recall was clear!
"...They took me back to Nine somehow. It was there that They began planning bad things, I think. When I woke up, They baited me with food. FOOD!"
Sam scraped the table with his fingers, attempting to shave away the wood with his nails, "And then They did it! Dirt! Mud! All over me! Do They have any idea how important it is to me to be clean, Dante?!"
Sam paused dramatically, but the pause itself was rhetorical, "They knew it! They knew it, I swear! I can show you Them now... I can... They.... They...."
Sam trailed off when suddenly, the last volatile link clicked inside his head.
"....They come from Nine, Dante. They have sparkly water. They, no, She has water."

The more that Sam explained, the more it seemed less likely that someone was trying to kill him, but probably more like they were trying to help. Dante didn't blame him though, it would be easy for Sam to jump to conclusions given his... state. But then again, you could never be too sure what could be going on, especially in a world where people who are different are sent into forced labor...
"They knew it! They knew it, I swear! I can show you Them now... I can... They.... They.... They come from Nine, Dante. They have sparkly water. They, no, She has water."
"Alright Sam, why don't you take me to them? I'll make sure they don't try hurting you again, I promise."

The other man listened closely to Sam's description of what was, to the gangly lunatic, a near-death experience. He didn't seem to entirely buy Sam's account, but, Sam has always been a little too imbalanced to see things any other way. In fact, ever since he was freed from Orphanage IX, Sam always has been a very paranoid individual.
Sam found Dante's response satisfactory, even comforting.
He brushed back his messy silver hair, and nodded, "All right! Then we can teach Them exactly who They're messing with!"
Sam turned, ready to return to Lana's residence, when he suddenly snapped back to look at Dante, "Wait. You always tell me to be prepared! I've got the Steamcleaner 3000 at my place. I just hope those people didn't rearrange my room again... I hate it when that happens."
And so, Sam started on his way back home, though he only vaguely recognized the streets. After a couple moments of misdirection, and being turned around, Sam eventually returned to Dante's table, and grinned.
"All right! Let's get the gun! And more stickies! We'll need to give you plenty of stickies! Hmmmn, maybe ten or so will do."

Sam said, just before he jumped up from the table and ran off. Dante was just about to get up and follow him, but he had no clue where he was going, so he figured it best to just wait there. Sur enough, Sam reappeared a few minutes later.
"All right! Let's get the gun! And more stickies! We'll need to give you plenty of stickies! Hmmmn, maybe ten or so will do."
"Sounds great," Dante said, not entirely sure who gave this man a gun... "Lead the way old pal."

Parisa :: Gorge
Parisa woke to the sound of Kallias' tinkering. She sat up to watch him; The lonely man seemed very content with his tools. It was nice to watch, really: a person passionate about what they were doing. Parisa longed for something similar.
Standing up, Parisa walked towards the man quietly. As she neared him, Kallias reached back for a wrench without looking, though his searching hand could not reach it. Crouching down behind him, Parisa picked up the wrench and placed it in his hand.
Finvarra Delafonte :: The Cradle :: Lonely Slums
Finvarra walked down the main street of the slums, looking for something to do. He was incredibly bored out of his mind. Ever since the day he and Soheila had helped the man with his errand, Soheila hadn't been around to play with Finvarra.
But he had to do something. He called out to the heavens for help.
"FUN! FUUUUUUUUUN! FINVARRA IS LONELY! IN WAYS MORE THAN ONE!!!"
And he was. Lonely by blood, and lonely in person. Finvarra gave no thought to this, however; he really didn't realize that being lonely was a bad thing, he just knew he was one.
One of many.
"Bored. Is no fun... Sing. I sing now." And thus he did. He skipped his gorilla skip and danced down the lane, looking for something to do.

At Dante's reply, Sam immediately grabbed his old friend's hand, and practically dragged him along the way. It really was a sight to see... Two Lonelies, one obviously more unkempt than the other.
The first of the two, Sam, was covered in ripped bandage and burns, with an insane grin on his face. He was galloping at full speed, and Dante's hand firmly caught in his vicegrip.
The other, Dante, was dressed in a more sensible cloak, with strange glowing chains encircling his wrists. The tall man stood at an imposing height, but his current position -bring dragged about town by Sam- compromised whatever stoic sensibility he originally appeared to have.
Sam eventually dragged Dante to the building where he lived, and thrust open the door. The landlord, a sympathizer connected to Baris and Su Seheri, opened the house to several Lonelies, each room being small, but livable. Luckily, he wasn't here, or he would have been aghast at Sam's condition.
Sam ignored two shocked residents as he clambered his way up the stairs towards his room.
"This way, this way," he said encouragingly, "And take your shoes off when you get in! I don't want sand in my room!"
And with that, Sam opened his door, and meticulously removed his shoes. Then, with a loud sigh, he flopped onto his bed, momentarily forgetting the large gun that rested on his desk...

[ Kallias – En route to Baris, Desert Gorge ]
Though more pleased than shocked when the wrench he sought found its way magically to his hand, Kallias still – as if out of reflex – sat up a little too quickly. The hunk of metal hovering above him soon had him lying back down. He half-laughed and groaned as he rubbed his forehead where a reddish blotch began to surface. Dragging himself from beneath the bike, Kallias brought his hand down to see if any blood came back with it. Luckily it was only a tiny knick.
Glancing over his shoulder to Parisa, he chuckled some more and waved. “Good morning,” he said, words muffled by his mask. He pulled one of the full vials from his belt. “Thirsty?” He tossed it gently into her hands.
Rassus scurried back onto the scene, in his mouth the corpse of another small creature. He stopped, stared at the two humans, then proceeded on again. The scrunt specifically made his way over to Parisa and plopped the bloodied, limp rodent on her foot. He waited for her reaction contentedly.

And with that, Sam opened his door, and meticulously removed his shoes. Then, with a loud sigh, he flopped onto his bed, momentarily forgetting the large gun that rested on his desk...
Dante carefully removed his boots, almost falling over in the process as he was careful to try to not get sand into Sam's home. It felt good to be rid of them, he had been walking in them all night, and boots aren't exactly the best thing to walk across the desert with.
"Not a bad little place ya got here Sam," Dante said looking around. "I'd love a stable place of my own, but you know me, always travelling. How long ya been here?"

~Elveda: Sam's Place~
At the sound of Dante's voice, Sam remembered -if only partially- what he was here for. He groaned in response, the flipped over, "I think, maybe.... one, two..." Sam thrust out his hand and began counting his fingers like a child.
"Three... four... something... one..." The gangly Lonely flipped onto his backside, and then fell off his bed with a thud, his head and upper back now on the floor. However, he didn't appear to care, as he was still immersed in his current focus: his fingers.
"Uhhhh... 'bout three, four days ago, I think?"
Sam slowly peeled himself off the floor, and groaned again. He wasn't so sure, really, about how long he had been here. He recalled being 'dropped' here less than a week ago. He had traveled for days through the desert to get here, with a couple other people from Baris to watch him.
Back then, Sam had no idea what it would really be like in Elveda- they only traveled at night, when it was cool and dark, to escape the suspicion of Twins. By the time they came to the city, it looked clean enough under the cover of darkness. But that was naive. Good weather may have followed him here, but it was never to stay.
By then, Sam was fastidiously making his messed-up bed once more. Once the task was completed, he swung himself over to his desk, and set the gun down just so. Then, he pulled as many bandages as he could from a drawer. He grabbed his inkwell and brush, and then motioned to Dante.
"Hey, how about you pull over that chair and sit down, will ya?"
Sam motioned again to Dante, pointing out the chair that was laying on the ground at the doorway.

"Uhhhh... 'bout three, four days ago, I think?" Sam said still staring at his fingers.
"Hmm, maybe it's not as stable of a place to live as I thought," Dante mumbled to himself as Sam did various things, including making the bed.
"Hey, how about you pull over that chair and sit down, will ya?" Sam said, indicating a chair by the door. Dante nodded and picked it up, setting it down near Sam and taking a seat.

Dante dragged the chair over and sat down in front of Sam. Sam grinned a wide grin, ripped the first bandage off his roll.
"All right then! It's time to get you all Stickied up, Dante! Don't want Them tracking you, do ya?"
Sam paused as if waiting for an answer, but of course, the question was a rhetorical one. Before Dante could open his mouth to respond, Sam replied, "Well, of course you don't want Them to see ya! That's why you have to use Stickies. Seeeeeee?"
The grinning Lonely then gestured all around his body, proudly pointing out each colorful bandage he wore. He nodded at Dante, and slapped the bandage he held in his hand right onto Dante's forehead, between his horns. Sam then took the paintbrush, dipped it in the ink, and drew a big childish eye onto the bandage.
"All right! That's the first one! Now, I didn't bring enough, but you'll need them more than I do. So, take off your shirt..."

Dante struggled to look up at the bandage that was now on his forhead. Of course he wouldn't be able to see it, but that didn't stop him.
"All right! That's the first one! Now, I didn't brink enough, but you'll need them more than I do. So, take off your shirt..." Sam said.
Dante opened his mouth as if to protest, but quickly closed it without saying anything. Knowing that going along with him was far easier than arguing, Dante stood up and removed his sand colored cloak, followed by his shirt and sat back down on the chair.

~Elveda: Sam's Place~
Sam grinned with pure glee once Dante removed his shirt and jacket, for before him now stood a blank canvas, ready for the great Lonely artist to decorate. He glanced over his artistic mediums- bandages and black paint- and nodded thoughtfully.
Then he artistically, strategically, placed all sorts of different bandages all over Dante's chest and shoulders. He even wrapped a few on his friend's arms. Once about nine or so bandages have been stretched in every which way across Dante's upper body, Sam stepped back, and rested his chin in his hand.
"Hmhm... yes... All right, perfect! Freeze!"
Without bothering to wait for Dante to answer or stay still, Sam began painting childish eyes all over Dante's bandages. Once done, the now-proud Lonely grinned widely and cried, "Ta-DA! You're done! They'll dry fast. It's my turn!"
Sam then sat down in his chair, starting the process all over again, this time, on himself. It didn't take long before Sam himself was done. Then, once finished with himself, he turned his attention to bandaging his gun.
This... performance of over-zealousness was bound to get on anyone's nerves.
