I just realized there is no books section on herrrr. I was going to see if there were any Harry Potter convos, but evidently not. I was quite depressed. Comics is close... but not really the same. We should talk about the books we love. I'm rereading The Great Gatsby for one of my classes. And I forgot how terrifickly weird that book is... And... I <3 Harry Potter. And novels in general.

Most of the books I enjoy are either graphic novels or are apart of classic literature...and I'd rather not get into classic literature. xD Let's just say there are a lot of books within the realms of classic literature that I feel are sorely overrated. *cough*thefountainhead*cough*
But I do love Harry Potter as well. In fact, it's one of the only pieces of modern literature that I've found I enjoy...besides Interview with a Vampire, and just about anything by Jodi Picoult or Tim O'Brien. But, honestly, I gotta say...I love John Steinbeck's works more than anything. The Pearl, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath...honestly, that man is like a hero to me. Also gotta give some huge props to Edith Wharton, and--even though she never wrote a novel--Emily Dickinson.

WHAT? The Fountainhead is one of my favorites!!! I hadn't even really heard about it before I had read it either, so I didn't know it was overrated... I barely knew it was rated at all. I just read it on my own and looooved it! Except it was a bit off-kilter. But that made it great.
I love all sorts of books though. I am a Harry Potter fanatic. But I also love both classics and, well, random stuff. Like Christopher Moore. He's brilliant. And hilarious. And Mice and Men is on the top of my list as well. Speaking of female poets - have you read Sylvia Plath's only novel? Supposedly everyone thought it was crap when she was alive. But it's brilliant. It's sort of an autobiography, except told through another character, and some things are changed. It's called The BellJar, and it's wonderful.

I have to read Ayn Rands works, such as The Fountainhead. Ive been meaning to for a few months due to Bioshock being heavily based off of Ayn Rands philosophy.
And I loves HP too~!
Annnnnd I started reading The Great Gatsby but I never got to finish it, which kinda sucks because I was really getting into it.

I remember the Simpsons making some joke that the only people who read The Fountainhead are like, pretentious assholes or something, and I felt a little sad about myself, haha, but I still loved it.

I'm sorry if I offended you with my Fountainhead remark, Ladafi...if it makes you feel any better, I don't dislike the book because of its philosophy; on the contrary, I think Ayn Rand has a very interesting, and very intelligent mind. I disliked it because I thought the story was dull and predictable...and other reasons that I feel are a bit too offensive to discuss. xD I'll just stop before I make people angry... Anyways, I've read a bit of Sylvia Plath, but not nearly enough to satiate my thirst. I'm going to the bookstore tomorrow, so I might find something there...though I doubt it, since they don't even have any Mark Twain novels...arse-holes.

<3 Harry Potter
<3 Sylvia Plath (though I never finished The Bell Jar cuz senior year swamped me
<3 Hannibal Lecter series
Girl, Interrupted is a MUCH better book than movie. I hate the movie with passion for screwing up the book cuz it was her LIFE and they Hollywoodized it. >.<
Lolita and The Little Prince are good. I read Persepolis and The Epic of Gilgamesh for class and they were good too. Currently reading Full Frontal Feminism... almost done, just one chapter to go.
Nonfiction takes me longer to read than fiction >.<

Lenne - don't worry, I wasn't offended. I was just shocked, because I love it so much. For future reference (since it is true, you technically don't know me very well... I forget that sometimes. XD)... don't ever worry about offending me. I find your opinion totally legit. Man, whenever I look back on The Fountainhead, I think about those creepy weird sex scenes that freaked me out a little. LOL. Turk - Nonfiction takes so much longer than fiction because it doesn't create awesome pictures in your head. Or, it can, but a lot of the time nonfiction is about ideas. Whereas fiction has events happening. And I haven't read Girl, Interrupted. Maybe I should???

Love, love, loooove Harry Potter. But, I still haven't exactly dived into Deathly Hallows. I have too many books on queue!
I'm a big fan of Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D novels, and I also really like Scott Westerfield (he's most famous for the Uglies series of books) and I've yet to read his steampunky adventure Leviathan. *drool*
I also just got into The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, and I very much enjoyed The Affinity Bridge by George Mann.
I'm a fan of science fiction, adventure, fantasy, and thrillers. Also, recently finished Pride and Prejudice. Now I need to read the zombie version. XD
Mind you, I've been reading through Pride and Prejudice for about forever. It's a lot for the mind to take in, sometimes. Also, Mr. Darcy is now among my literary crushes. Pfffffft~

Ladafi- Yeah, and the lack of plot... And homg, yes yes read Girl, Interrupted! So much better than the movie. It's kind of a series of stories, and they left like half of them out of the movie (including some of my favorites). Also they screwed up the major plot with Daisy a LOT. IC- Hate Deathly Hallows. This is one of the few times I'll say this, but just Sparknote it. Half the book takes place in a forest. I call it Harry Potter and the Prolonged Camping Trip. :/ And Mr. Darcy is like, my ideal, dude... <3

@turk: I haven't read The Epic of Gilgamesh, but I absolutely love Persepolis. That's still one of my all time favorites. And it really depends on the book when it comes to non-fiction and fiction. I've read some non-fiction books that are really short, and some fiction ones that are long as hell. I also recently read Utopia...it's 100 pages long, but God, it's a long read. Ladafi: I'm glad I didn't upset you. ^.^ I know a whole bunch of hardcore Ayn Rand fans, and anytime I mention the fact I didn't like Fountainhead, they all swarm me like hyenas. o.0 @ice: I haven't read Pride and Prejudice...only seen the movie. Is the book better? And I saw the zombie version of the book a while back... Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. xD The author also wrote a book about Abraham Lincoln called Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. xD Soooo want to read it.

Heart of Darkness was so weird... I sort of hated it, and then learned to kind of like it? I don't know. Definitely, for being only like, 77 pages or something, it took forever! I also had to reread Things Fall Apart last quarter. Now that one is a good quickie. Oh man, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter sounds amazing! I want it ASAP. And hey, I totally recommend reading the last Harry Potter book! I know a lot of people had their waffles about it, but I still think it was good. But then again, I'm very invested in the characters (Sadly, I will admit to you all that from the ages of 8-18, I've listened to the books on audio cassette to help me fall asleep... I've probably heard each story about 100 times, if not more... >.<). But anyways, I enjoyed the last book a lot. Even the sort of weird crummy epilogue. Haha. I'm one of those people who wishes there was an 8th one, even though, technically, there probably wouldn't be anything exciting to put in an 8th one... just more about the characters!

Ok, I'm currently enjoying Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Seriously, his writing is... OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM.
I can't help but devour just about anything that man writes. Probably going to read more chapters tonight. Mmmmm, yummy. Adventure and steampunk is gooood~
Yeah, I'm a real sucker for a good old adventurey yarn. :3

Ugh, have a pounding headache right now from working on computer science project. I hate assembly language... go die...
Anyway, got Deathly Hallows the day it came out. Finished reading it the same day. Read it three more times after that. I do that with all the Harry Potter books. Not necessarily because its a good read, but because its a simple and driving story that's easy to get into, and makes for entertaining, minimal-thought-process-necessary reading.
I remember that I read Alexander Dumas' Three Musketeers for fun in elementary school. Yeah... I liked reading back then too. Japanese light novels are extremely fun too. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is awesome, with its hilarious implications of the order of the universe as we may or may not know it.
Favorite book of all time is The Count of Monte Cristo, hands down. I don't remember how many times I read that book. It has amazing writing, epic plot, and soul-satisfying ending. If you haven't read it, go read it. NOW. I'll wait here.
Still haven't read it? What are you reading this for? Go read it!!!!
