Personally, I love Terra, yet I have the sneaking suspicion that Locke is the intended main character of FFVI. I think they decided to make her the lead since they needed a female in the hero line up of Dissidia. I wish I could check wikipedia a few years back to see what it said.
So, was she always the main character? When I originally played the game a couple years ago, I always thought the main character was Locke. Granted, I only got about an hour or two into it. Still, the main character was never clearly defined for me, so I can't tell. Plus, it seems like Terra is absent from the party a lot, and main characters are usually annoyingly present in your part through out the game...
So yeah. Theories anyone?

I think both of the really are the main character(s). In a way, I think all the characters have deep story lines, with both Terra and Locke having the main front story lines. Does one have to be more than the other?
(Also, my favorite character story line of the game is Shadow. Shadow's so secretive and amazing! And Interceptor!)

Well...I don't suppose my opinion counts, since I've only played the modified GBA FFVI, and not the original...but when I first played it, Terra seemed to be more like the main character to me. Locke was important, but...only important in the way Tifa was important in FFVII--he was there only when Terra was preoccupied, as Tifa was there when Cloud was indisposed. I felt Terra's history, origins, and circumstances were more the main focus of the story than the other characters', even if we did control Locke much of the time; besides, it seemed to me she had a more substantial reason to fight the empire than the others, especially when it came to the main villain, Kefka. (Then again, that was the same reasoning they used for making Jecht a playable character in Dissidia when I felt he wasn't exactly main villain material...)
Of course, Square could've just intended for each character to have a substantial role, instead of focusing on one single person.

I suppose you're right. It just seemed like Locke was the main character when I originally played it like... a long time ago. And then when it was Terra I was like '!'.
lol.
I like her being the main character more, personally. It just felt like they stuck her in to make the hero team more gender friendly...
I mean... it would look bad if they didn't have at least ONE girl lol.

I like to think that Terra is the main character, as well. But you gotta remember, somehow FFVI had like a SHITLOAD OF PLAYABLE CHARACTERS and kept them all straight- something I haven't seen again in Final Fantasy, to be honest. And yes, Locke is important, but... Where is the Edgar love? D: Also: This is the real main character.

IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT SEXUALITY, THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT. Mind out of gutter, please. lololol
Well, they essentially were able to handle a huge plot with a bunch of characters... It's difficult to describe exactly what I mean. Most of them are perfectly well-fleshed out, and relate well to the overarching plot. I'm having such a hard time with this, maybe my memory's just borked today.

I like her being the main character more, personally. It just felt like they stuck her in to make the hero team more gender friendly... I can see why you'd think that... I kind of feel that way about Barret in FFVII--like they sorta added him there as the token black guy. >.< Which would suck, since I've always really liked Barret... But you gotta remember, somehow FFVI had like a SHITLOAD OF PLAYABLE CHARACTERS and kept them all straight- something I haven't seen again in Final Fantasy, to be honest.RIGHT!? I don't mind having only one real main character, especially when that character has a lot going on, but... I kinda miss the old Final Fantasy's, where every character had a chance to really shine. They kinda did it in FFIX, but not nearly to the same extent as FFVI. And yes, Locke is important, but... Where is the Edgar love? D: Edgar was my favorite male character, actually. ^.^ Right up there with Cyan.

Lenne: UHG. I know what you mean! Barret was waaaaay stereotyped lol. Sahz was less so, definitely, but he was kind of boring. He was always like 'Meh, I'm such an only man. I can't keep up with you kids.'
He was 40 years old... but still... YOU CAN JUMP FIFTY FRIGGAN FEET IN THE AIR JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS LOL.
And I haven't actually played through all of six, but I really like it so far. I think I just got Terra back after she was knocked out.
Gau is MAH FAV man... though I never use him >.<

Another thing I noticed in Dissidia is how fail they made Terra. Not that her attacks are all that bad [though they ARE weaker then a lot of other characters], but all her battle quotes and that kind of stuff are terrible.
'Get away!'
'Leave me alone!'
D;
Terra, Zidane, and Kuja are my favorite characters to play as!
Kuja kind of sucks too with his attacks, but he isn't a very high level in my game yet so that might change.
Also.... WOULDN'T IT BE AMAZING IF THEY RE-MADE VI?
I think out of all the games, VI should be remade. I mean, it has one of the best story lines AND pretty serious character development!
I just like seeing things in pretty graphics :x

xD Being that FFIX is my absolute favorite, I'd probably want that to be remade more than anything else... But I really wouldn't mind if they ever remade a Final Fantasy, or adapted one into a movie/graphic novel of some sort.
And, yes, Square really failed in Terra's character in Dissidia...and I can't believe the Emperor gets so much headline in the game. The Emperor didn't get that big of a role in even Final Fantasy II...-.-"
Zidane's my strongest at 80. o.0 Though I've been so busy lately...just haven't had the time to play.

Ahhhh, I want to play you! My Terra is like... 87? Or something like that.
And what can I say? I'm a total fan boy...
I JUST WANT IT ALLLL!!!
Remakes, movies...
I uber-fan-gasmed when I played FFXIII AND when I first found out the lead was Lightning... I died.
It's people like me that ruin everything.

I think they should make movies out of way more video games than they do. I mean, Advent Children was alright, but I wanted more of the story than the fight scenes... I mean, I know it's a video game, but cooome onnnn. I want more FF movies.

I'd like an actual movie adaption of a game, and not just a movie sequel to one. I always felt FFX would be perfect for such a project...when you think about it, the game is much like a movie as it is.
Also, when I first saw the trailer to The Golden Compass movie...I first thought they had made FFIX into a movie. xD I had only seen a few screenshots, so...you know, airships, castles, beginnings of steam technology--just made me think "OMG ITZ FINAL FANTASY IX!!1! :-DDDD"
x) I'm a loser, I know.
