R U L E S
1. Check Spelling.
No one likes to read typos, and it's even more embarrassing when you find your own! Obviously, typos happen to EVERYONE, so it's not the end of the world if you've made one. Just re-read your post after you've written it and correct your mistakes.
2. Use proper grammar.
Chat speak is FORBIDDEN! If you're in your n00b phase, which all of us have been through, then it's best you get over it as quickly as possible! We're all here to help! If you have grammar questions then feel free to ask. I'm not perfect, but I do know a little. Googling things can help too x)
3. Be original.
While it is impossible to be truly original, it is not impossible to mix it up by doing something you do not usually do. There are too many insanely powerful half-angel, half-demon nineteen year old boys who are bent killing their evil fathers. Try something new :)
4. Post quality posts.
Sometimes as RPers, we get the urge to make the longest post, thus satisfying our ego... RESIST THE URGE! In truth, we'd rather have a good, quality description than a never ending pile of doo-doo!
5. Respect.
I don't tolerate rudeness, and neither should you. While people will have their occasional squabbles, it is never acceptable to go out of your way to insult someone's idea, character, self, etc. This is a hate free zone, and there will be no sexism, racism, homophobia, or anything of the sort! We even love n00bs, as silly as they are :]
6. READ THE PROFILES.
One thing that drives me insane is when the other members of an RP take no interest in other characters. Some profiles may be long, but it only means that you are going to get to know that person's character better. Sometimes other players have not known the gender of my character because they did not read the profiles. I mean, come on? JUST DO IT!
7. No Godmod.
This when your character never gets hurt yet kills everyone else in a single blow. Basically you're acting like god [hence the title]. Don't do it because it's a quick way to get everyone not to like you!
N O T E S
Don't get discouraged! If you're new to RPing, then the best advice for you is to watch and learn. You'll probably make a lot of mistakes, but you'll learn from them as you write and role-play more and more! All good RPers were once bad! Keep at it and you'll get there eventually! I've been doing this for a good seven or eight years, so I've had time to improve. I am, however, still learning all the time!
Always feel free to ask questions, propose ideas, give suggestions, agree or disagree! You need to be respectful when doing these, but it never hurts to politely voice your opinion.
Also, if you are more experienced, try to be understanding to those who are not. While it may seem easy to write them off as annoying, it is best to give less experienced RPers a chance! Help them with their mistakes to help them improve! Though I will ask you to be careful in doing this, for it can often come off as a personal attack if you don't pick the right words to correct someone in.
Now, the rules for each RP will differ from game master [GM] to game master. Sometimes it's fun to have a no-purpose RP where everyone just godmods the crap out of each other! Follow the rules of the GM, and you should be fine!
Also, when wanting to join an RP, it is possible for you to be rejected by the GM. It can be for various reasons, but if you are turned down do not take it to heart!
Last thing. It can vary from RP to RP, but there is usually an IC thread [In character] and an OOC thread [Out of character]. The IC thread is strictly you playing as your character, and the OOC thread is where you can talking normally, exchange ideas with other players, etc.
And that's all for now! Hope this helps!
And please let me know if you find any typos! ;3
